Emily & Dylan | Outer Banks Engagement Photographer | Nags Head, NC

One of the best qualities of being an Outer Banks Engagement Photographer is being able to photograph a couple in the natural elements of the beach/dunes and Emily & Dylan's Outer Banks Engagement session was perfectly captured in Nags Head, NC. We just love these two and could not wait to share these amazing images that showcase their love for one another. We started taking photos in the wooded area by Bodie Island Lighthouse and capturing some beautiful moments by the lighthouse as well. One of our most favorite spot for beach photos is the Coquina Beach access in Nags Head, NC. Ryan and I love this spot because of the natural dune line & lack of rental homes/hotels. We love the fact that you get an untouched feel to the photos..kind of like being on your own private beach with not a person in sight. We hope that you enjoy these images just as much as we do and we cannot wait to photograph Emily & Dylan's wedding in Maryland next year!

Erin & Kyle | Tuckahoe Plantation Wedding | Richmond, VA

As I sit here in the midst of wedding season, I am reminiscing about Erin & Kyle's beautiful Tuckahoe Plantation wedding in Richmond, VA.  You see, this year they are forecasting it to be the year of tropical storms and hurricanes. Okay, 2016.. you are killing us with the rain!!! STOP!  Already, we have seen two tropical storms here on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and I can honestly say that I don't think we are out of the dark yet.  But I am not writing this blog about tropical storms or hurricanes, I am writing this blog about this beautiful wedding that took place during a week where Hurricane Joaquin made landfall on the coast of Virginia and brought torrential downpours and windy conditions to Richmond, VA.

I remember our site visit with Erin & Kyle vividly.  It was a hot/humid day and I remember telling them not to worry because the weather in October is absolutely gorgeous in Virginia with mild temperatures and little rain. These two even buried a bottle of Jefferson Reserve Bourbon upside down at the ceremony site because old southern tradition says that if you do so, it will be a beautiful day for your wedding.. Okay, superstitions aside, ...  It was a really awesome added element to their wedding day when they unearthed the bourbon.

So... back to the wedding.  We knew that it was going to rain/sprinkle/downpour that day. We had been watching the weather all week and we were ready! We packed extra protection for our cameras and even bought weather appropriate clothing. I knew that I was not going to spend the day ill prepared! When we arrived, it was sprinkling a little but not enough to keep our couple from having the wedding of their dreams.  You see, Erin was not having it at all.. she was determined to get married outside, have all of her photos outside, and a little hurricane was not going to stand in her way.  We captured some amazing moments in the english garden of Erin slipping into her dress, an incredible first look with the couple (between periods of rain), and some amazing family and bridal party photos as well.  The ceremony took place outside as guests took a stroll through a hedge maze and relaxed in between some beautiful trees that framed everything so perfectly! With umbrellas in tow, everyone witnessed a beautiful and touching ceremony that included some very touching moments while their parents took turns reading some beautiful words to the lovely couple.

When the ceremony was over, the rain began and guests scurried to the white tent on the lawn where they wined and dined with some amazing food provided by Whitehouse Catering.  Ryan and I were able to get special access for photos in the Tuckahoe Plantation House (which I might add was Thomas Jefferson's childhood home).  After a few photos in the home, we made our way to the tent where guests were seated at farm tables adorned with green garland, roses, and lots of candlelight brought to you by the bride and Vogue Flowers.  The Buttercream Bee provided an assortment of small cakes in varying flavors and they were scrumptious! As the party went on throughout the night, I don't think I saw a single person sit down. Everyone was on the dance floor thanks to DJ Asian Will who did a fantastic job!  Bonnie Bedell was Erin & Kyle's day of coordinator for the wedding and she did a fantastic job of organizing and making sure everything went off without a hitch!

Shannon & Chris | St. Thomas Wedding Magens Bay | St. Thomas U.S.V.I.

Let us be the first to tell everyone that we had the most fantastic week photographing Shannon & Chris’ beautiful St. Thomas wedding!  To start our story, I never thought that we would get this chance of a lifetime to not only go on a little mini-vacation during wedding season but also to do what we love the most- and that is capturing a love story in one of the most beautiful places on earth!

When we first met Shannon & Chris, we had an instant connection! They were so down to earth and then we found out that they love Harry Potter (if you don’t know, Rach is a little obsessed).  Originally the two of them were planning a destination wedding in the Outer Banks but quickly decided that wasn’t the wedding that they particularly wanted.  They changed their plans and decided to take all of their immediate family & close friends on the Norwegian Escape (cruise) and planned their St. Thomas wedding while they were docked at port.  When Shannon & Chris decided to hire us, we were ecstatic! Beach weddings are terrific and all (we see a lot of them), but the thought of crystal clear water and swaying palm trees made our heart skip a beat!

Fast forward to the big destination adventure…

We flew from Washington DC to Miami, FL on Friday to photograph their welcome dinner at Prime One Twelve.  The dinner was absolutely fantastic and we were not only excited to be there, but also to be treated as we were part of the family.

On Saturday, we boarded the cruise ship and we were sailing away on the beautiful crystal clear waters of the Caribbean where Ryan and I spent the first few days preparing for the wedding and catching up on some much needed naps- yes, wedding season took a little toll on us this year so some much needed R&R (no pun intended) was definitely a welcomed perk to the trip.

Our first port was beautiful St. Thomas (Wedding Day)!  We woke up early and made our way to the fabulous spa located on board the ship where Shannon and her bridesmaid’s were pampered with hair & makeup services.  Shannon put on her beautiful Maggie Sottero gown and she was absolutely stunning! When we left the ship, we were greeted by Presidential Limousine in St. Thomas where they escorted us to the beautiful wedding located at Magens Bay.  Magens Bay is breath-taking with pristine white sandy beaches, clear sapphire blue water, swaying palm trees, and the view of the mountain peaks emerging from the waters of the Virgin Islands.  The location is picture perfect and post card worthy.  After a 30-minute delay (due to mother nature’s crying fit), the ceremony began as Chris’ sister officiated the heartfelt ceremony.  Irie Matrimony were rockstars at coordinating & planning the wedding and wonderful vendors were chosen for their big day!  St. John Catering served some of the best food that I have ever tasted! The carribean jerk chicken was to die for! Shannon & Chris’ family & friends enjoyed the views, danced to carribean music, and swam in the beautiful water (yes, some even in their wedding attire).

The day was magical and everything that we could have dreamed it would be!

As I type this blog post, I am sitting in the lobby of the ship overlooking the ocean and continuing to sail to the Bahamas! I could get used to this!  To the future bride’s & groom’s considering a destination wedding, all I can say is DO IT!
